Deep Thought of the Day

How does one politely explain the terms "Sugar Daddy" and "Brown Noser" to your substitute German teacher? (she asked!)

I don't know about "sugar daddy," but German has several (somewhat more explicit) words that can approximate "brown noser." Two that come immediately to mind are Arschkriecher and Schleimer.

A sugar daddy is an older man who rains showers of diamonds on his lover like one sprinkles crystals of sugar atop a doughnut.

A brown noser requires you to explain "kiss my ass" first.

I've been introduced (by local natives) to the term "Chefzäpfchen" — not sure if it's popular use though or not.

@ Diane - I think she was wondering because she saw some American show and didn't understand the term and thought she would ask the "Token American" in the class. I think she just thought they were harmless expressions like "kill 2 birds with one stone." Little did she know...

@ everyone else...Let's just say that my explanation was AWKWARD although I wish I had your way with words headbang8!
