Jobless in the US vs Germany

If you are interested, here is an article in the WSJ looking at an American and a German who are both unemployed.

I am a little skeptical of some of the claims made here (especially considering a certain Mr. Murdoch owns WSJ) but I found it interesting especially when dealing with health insurance.

But the focus on the unemployed German going on vacation? Come on, I know a lot of unemployed Germans who are not taking vacations this year. I want to see some real statistics and not furthering the myth that "Europe is one big Socialist Vacation Land where no one works and everyone gets everything for free including pink ponies."

My pink pony that I received for free upon my entry to Germany

I'd say it's mostly accurate - and I do know a few Germans who have become unemployed and have gone on vacation (booking it after they were laid off).

Thanks for the article.
